FAQ

Cycling Without Age is a worldwide movement that aims to provide joy and vitality to older adults through the magic of the bicycle. Through the simple act of sharing a bike ride, it weaves a sense of community and gathers unique and invaluable stories, unlocked only by the wind and wheels.

The movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow. Ole wanted to help his neighbors at the local nursing home get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the residents of Kærbo nursing home. Ole grew up with a father who used a wheelchair so he knew first hand what the lack of mobility lead to in terms of stigma and isolation.

Cycling Without Age Ventura (CWAV) is our new local chapter of this worldwide movement.

The trishaw is a custom made bicycle for the rider (pilot) in back and passengers in front. Our current model is (insert picture) made in Bentonville, Arkansas by  Gnargo Bike Company

We are currently visiting locations throughout Ventura and Ojai to work on recurring scheduled rides.  As of this writing, we will be providing weekly rides at The Lexington in Ventura and The Gables of Ojai.  If you know of a facility that would benefit from our rides, please contact us.  You may also request a ride on our website Contact page for anyone that is mobility impaired.

Fun!  Our 45 minutes to 1 hour rides provide a chance to be outside and talk with others. Ventura and Ojai offer some of the more scenic rides on earth.

We provide these volunteer piloted rides for free to the riding partners (passengers).

Almost anyone that is mobility impaired is welcome.  If you have a loved one that you feel would benefit from a ride, please speak with the healthcare providers at the facility where they are and let them know about us.  We would be happy to meet and discuss with them.  We have also provided rides for individuals and residents of mobile home parks.  If you are not sure, please contact us to discuss.

No. Our focus is anyone that is not able to ride a bike on their own.

Not very dangerous at all. The trishaws go slowly, usually 5-8 mph. They have seat belts. We also carry our own insurance.

The trishaws are owned by Cycling Without Age Ventura.  If you would like to donate to help support this worthy cause, please visit our Support/Donate page.
